Low Temperature - Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (LT-STM)

Our instrument consists of a ultra-high vacuum system which is separated in a preparation chamber (right) and the scanning tunneling microscope chamber with the bath cryostate (left).  The UHV chamber is  custom-designed and comprises several surface preparation tools like sputter-gun, LEED, metal and molecule evaporators. The STM head itself was developed at EPFL in Lausanne.

Currently we are setting up a second low-temperature STM based on the STM apparatus we implemented and operated at UBC in Vancouver. The respective scanner with cryostate are bought from SPECS/Createc GmbH.  The design of the STM is based on the STM’s developed at the FU Berlin (www.lt-stm.com).
